On Saturday, Safaricom declared that commencing from Monday, February 5, 2024, customers would no longer have the capability to transfer funds from M-Pesa to unregistered mobile accounts.
The telecommunications company underscored that registered customers, on the other hand, will continue to have the privilege of effortlessly sending and receiving money, including transactions with different mobile money service providers.
“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-Pesa to unregistered mobile money customers,” reads Safaricom.
Safaricom has strategically implemented this measure to bolster security protocols and streamline transactions within the mobile money landscape.
The telecommunications giant is urging individuals who haven’t yet registered for mobile money services to take immediate action. In their appeal, they emphasize,
“We encourage customers who are not yet registered for mobile money services to complete the registration process by visiting a Safaricom Shop or an M-Pesa agent with their identification document.”
Emphasizing the significance of this registration procedure, the company underscores its role in maintaining a secure and accountable mobile money ecosystem.
