Amason Kingi Elected as Senate Speaker

Amason Kingi Elected as Senate Speaker.

Former Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi has emerged as the winner in the elections as Speaker of the Senate. The election took place after the Senators-elect from the August elections were sworn in.

The exercise however experienced drama after Azimio Senators walked out of the Senate building on learning that Kalonzo had withdrawn from the Senate speaker race.

Kalonzo Musyoka had been among the contenders who had submitted their nomination papers for the Senate speaker position but withdrew hours before the election. This saw Amason Kingi of Kenya Kwanza emerge victorious with 46 out of 67 votes. Amason will be deputized by Meru Senator Murungi Kathuri.

“I’m humbled & touched by the immense confidence & trust you have placed on me. I accept w/ humility & pledge that I shall perform to my uttermost ability the constitutional responsibilities & duties of the office of Speaker of Senate” Kingi said.

“With humility, I take up my role as Speaker @Senate_KE of the Republic of Kenya. Special thanks to all the Honorable Senators who had faith in me and overwhelmingly voted in my favor. I pledge to discharge my duties without fear, favour or bias.

God Bless Kenya!” He added
