KTB names Joanne Mwangi-Yelbert as the new chairperson.

KTB, The Kenya Tourism Board through President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Ms. Joanne Mwangi-Yelbert as Chairperson of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) for a three-year term. Ms. Mwangi-Yelbert was gazetted on July 5, 2022, and will serve as KTB’s first female Chairperson.

I want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for this appointment which is a sign of the confidence he has in my leadership ability. I am passionate about Kenya and about tourism and look forward to sharing my experience in marketing Kenya as a top tourism destination. I am glad that I will have a role to play in developing and improving tourism in Kenya.

Ms. Mwangi-Yelbert, a brand creation and communication specialist with international recognition, is dedicated to assisting the KTB Management and other tourism stakeholders in carrying out the organization’s mission. Ms. Mwangi-Yelbert is especially eager to maintain the importance of local and domestic tourism while also strategically positioning the Magical Kenya brand to expand Kenya’s tourism in profitable foreign markets.

As the founder and CEO of Professional Marketing Services (PMS) Group, a multi-award-winning marketing and communications Pan African agency, the new KTB Chairperson is at heart an entrepreneur. She has acted as a strategic advisor to numerous boards in the public and commercial sectors, and she currently serves as chair of the Kenyan Advertising Standards Body. She is a highly sought-after public speaker, a marketing expert with global renown, and the recipient of the OWIT Woman of the Year Award, among other distinctions.

KTB CEO Dr. Betty Radier made a statement regarding the appointment and welcomed Ms. Mwangi-Yelbert on her appointment. She also acknowledged the departing chair Mr. Jimi Kariuki for his service to the tourist industry.
