Esther Wambui died by strangulation, according to postmortem results revealed on Friday, Janmortuary.  Dr. Simon Omuok, the pathologist who performed the autopsy at City Mortuary,  stated that the deceased was struck in the head with a blunt instrument.

Police gathered samples in order to undertake additional investigations into the death of the 18-year-old, who they believe was also sexually molested before her death. During the autopsy, her husband Joseph Ngigi and her father Samuel Mbugua, were there. The police said her spouse is also a suspect in the investigation.

Detectives looking into the case had  obtained surveillance footage from her job, which revealed she left for home around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday, January 9.

Due to the instability in the region where they resided, her husband said he would normally escort Wambui to work and would also pick her up at the finish of her shift.

Ngigi told detectives that he escorted Wambui to work at 5.40a.m. on Sunday, January 16, but since it was dark and the day had already broken, he went home. Wambui was seen leaving work for home at 8.30 p.m. on Sunday, but Ngigi did not pick her up that day, as is customary.

She worked as a waitress in Ruiru at a hotel in a gas station. Wambui was slain and her corpse left outside the GSU, according to preliminary findings.

It was reported by members of the public that there was a dead body in a briefcase which had been dumped near the service lane along the perimeter wall of the Recce Company Camp at Toll area M/R BJ755775 about 4km south of the station. The police reported.

Police officers visited the scene and confirmed that there was a body of an unknown African female adult in her early twenties who had been stashed in a nylon sack and put in a black suitcase with the hands tied at the back and both legs as well tied with manila ropes, the police report read.
