Police raid former CS Fred Matiangi house

DCI agents forced entry into Matiangi’s compound despite resistance by the security guard at the gate to try and obtain CCTV Footage.

They claimed the agency will review the footage to establish Matiangi’s allegations on an alleged raid at his home on February 8 which was said to be untrue.

The detectives who were accompanied by uniformed police officers broke the main gate, after watchmen at the gate denied them entry.

They then proceeded to search the house in search of the CCTV footages in an ongoing investigation to confirm if Matiangi’s claim that police had raided his home last week was true.

The search at Matiangi’s has come even as DCI chief Mohammed Amin said it had recorded statements from police officers attached to the former Cabinet Secretary.

“Upon completing our investigation, we will take action if any officers from any security agency were involved in any unauthorized activities, or if any false information was knowingly disseminated by anyone to the public,” he said.

The DCI had earlier applied for an order to compel security firms at Matiangi’s home to hand them the footage but the court did not not grant them permission, prompting them to apply for a search warrant which was then issued.

Matiangi’s legal team led by Danstan Omari said that the officers made a forceful entry into the premises of the former CS that served under the regime of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We were alerted that they (police) have arrested the watchman and broke the main gate. They gained access and ransacked the CS house,…..this is unacceptable.” he said.

The DCI boss said the agency intends to review the footage to establish Matiangi’s allegy on the alleged raid at his home on February 8 which was dismissed as untrue.
