They disclosed that their daughter, Rita Waeni Muendo, was a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).Nigerian Man Arrested for Murder and Dismemberment of 20 year Old Woman

On the ill-fated day, Rita left her aunt’s house in Syokimau to meet a friend. At approximately 5 am on Sunday, her father received a distressing text message from her phone.

The message demanded a ransom of Ksh 500k within 24 hours for her release. Distraught, the family promptly reported the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), triggering an immediate investigation.

The family revealed that two more messages, also demanding ransom, were subsequently sent. Unfortunately, they were unable to gather further details about the ransom demands.

” Additionally, some more demands were made when she had already been murdered,” said the family.

“We believe she was lured by her killer, who also tried to extort money from her family, even after killing her,” the family added.

They described her as “an intelligent, smart girl beyond her age at the very start of her youth,” who was known for her kindness, laughter, and “ability to light up any room she entered.”

Investigators have disclosed that the victim and the alleged suspect initially connected on the social media platform Instagram.

In recent days, detectives have released CCTV footage featuring the primary suspect in the brutal murder of the 20-year-old woman. The footage captured the man talking on his phone before entering a shop adjacent to the Airbnb where the crime occurred.

The manager of the Airbnb, where the suspect had booked the premises on Saturday at 3 pm, revealed receiving a call from the caretaker after discovering suspicious polythene trash bags containing body parts.

Yesterday, law enforcement detained a male foreign national at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on suspicion of involvement in the murder. The suspect, traveling with a Mozambican passport, was intercepted before boarding a plane.

Detectives are actively searching for the victim’s head and personal belongings, including her clothes and mobile phone.
