KFCB replaces Ezekiel Mutua amid EACC probe

KFCB replaces Ezekiel Mutua amid EACC probe.

Earlier on we reported on allegations surrounding the former KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua being fired. He dismissed the claims but news coming in prove otherwise.

It has been confirmed that with effect from Friday, August 6, 2021, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has been removed as Chairman of the Kenya Film Classification Board.

According to an internal memo received by The Standard , dated August 6 and sent to KFCB staff members, Christopher Wambua will operate as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Kindly accord him (Wambua) the necessary support, the memo, whose undersigned is the Chief Corporate Affairs Manager, Paskal Opiyo, said.

Despite disputing allegations that he had been ousted as the agency’s chief on Thursday night, Dr. Mutua’s next step is unknown.

My attention has been drawn to reports on social media to the effect that I have been fired as CEO of KFCB. Please ignore such malicious rumours. I am not aware of such developments and there can be no grain of truth in them as there’s no vacancy in the office of the CEO KFCB, he tweeted.

Since 2015, Dr. Mutua has served as the CEO of KFCB for two three-year mandates.

It is unclear whether his unceremonious departure was caused by the expiration of his time as KFCB CEO.He has not been on good terms with Kenyan artists who have been rooting for his exit . There have also been allegations surrounding him on irregular transfer of salaries and allowances to his account which is the reason he is under investigation by the EACC.

Christopher Wambua, the new KFCB boss, previously held the position of Director of Communications and Public Affairs at the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), which he rose to in 2015.
