Martin Luther King Jr Youngest Son, Dexter Scott King, dies at 62

The younger son of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, Dexter Scott King, has passed away at the age of 62,New York Times reported.

The reports noted that, after bravely battling prostate cancer, King peacefully died in his sleep, as stated by his wife, Leah Weber King.

In a heartfelt statement, she expressed his unwavering determination in facing the challenges posed by the disease.

“He transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with me in Malibu. He gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end. As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might.”

Dexter Scott King served as chairman of The Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, known as The King Center, and president of the King estate.

Martin Luther King III also conveyed deep sadness as he shared the news of his brother’s passing.

“The sudden shock is devastating. It is hard to have the right words at a moment like this. We ask for your prayers at this time for the entire King family.”

He was just 7 years old when his father, Martin Luther King Jr., was assassinated in 1968. Later, Dexter King attended Morehouse College, his father’s alma mater, and took on a small role as Martin Luther King Jr. in the 2002 CBS movie “The Rosa Parks Story.”
