Twitter to take new app Threads to court for cloning them

Twitter to take new app Threads to court for cloning them.

Twitter owner Elon Musk has threatened to sue Meta over their new rival app Threads.

Elon’s lawyer Alex Shapiro sent a letter to CEO Mark Zuckerberg threatening legal action, claiming that Meta hired former Twitter employees to create a clone of them.

In the letter, twitter claims Meta has engaged in systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.

The letter goes on to say that Meta hired former Twitter employees who “have improperly retained Twitter documents and electronic devices” and that Meta “deliberately” involved these employees in developing Threads which is a clone of Twitter.

“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights,” Spiro continued, “and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.” it said.

Meta launched the new social media app ‘Threads” on July 5, 2023 and the app has more than 55 million users.

However, twitter’s owner Elon Musk feels that the app is a clone to his already established app ‘Twitter’.

In one of his Tweet regarding this subject,

“Competition is fine, cheating is not”. he said.
