“You are required to appear at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s offices at Integrity Centre, Nairobi, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 9 am for an interview and statement recording,” a letter addressed to Salasya reads in part.

In a letter dated January 16, the CEO of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Twalib Mbarak, notified the Member of Parliament that two officers would be available to receive and document his statement.

The summons are in response to allegations that the MP assaulted Malaha/Isongo Ward MCA Peter Walunya during a funeral on January 12.

Mbarak emphasized that these allegations raise serious ethical concerns, and if proven true, they would constitute a significant violation of the integrity and ethical standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012.

The Commission has initiated investigations into the matter to take appropriate action within its mandate, according to the CEO.

In a related development, the MP voluntarily appeared at Mumias Law Courts on Wednesday following a court order. He stood before Senior Resident Magistrate Marcella Onyango to enter a plea for charges of assault and grievous bodily harm.

The MP pleaded not guilty and was released on a Sh50,000 bond. The case is scheduled for mention on February 19 and a hearing on March 12.
