MP Peter Salasya Arraigned In Court.

On Wednesday, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya faced charges of assault in the Mumias court. Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Marcella Onyango, Salasya pleaded to charges of assault and grievous bodily harm. Mumias MP Peter Salasya fulfills promise he made to Stevo Simple Boy

The controversial lawmaker was granted a Sh50,000 bond by Onyango, who scheduled the mention of the case for February 19 and set a hearing date for March 12.

Salasya voluntarily appeared in court after being ordered to do so by the magistrate. His absence on Tuesday led to claims of illness, stating he had been admitted to Aga Khan Hospital.

The assault charges stem from an alleged incident where Salasya is accused of assaulting Malaha/Isongo MCA Peter Walunya during a funeral service on Friday. Salasya vehemently denied the charges.

The prosecution, led by Arnold Magina, urged the court to cancel the bond terms for Salasya, arguing that the cash bail issued by the police should be forfeited by the state.

Furthermore, Magina proposed issuing a warrant of arrest against the MP for failing to comply with the court’s directive to appear on Tuesday.

“No document has been presented before the court to show why the accused failed to appear,” he said.

The magistrate directed the investigating officer to file before the court a comprehensive medical report from the Aga Khan Hospital where the MP was allegedly admitted.
