The poignant vigil took place at the Pavilion starting at 6 pm, drawing hundreds of students who stood in solemn unity, holding candles and bowing their heads in respectful silence.

In a touching tribute, the students arranged the lit candles on the ground to form the letters of her name, creating a luminous memorial.

Another poignant moment captured them standing on either side of the candles, harmoniously singing in her honor.

Rita Waeni’s lifeless body was discovered in plastic bags at a rental apartment in Roysambu on January 14, with her head missing, along with her phone and personal belongings.

The head was later found in Kiambaa Dam in Kiambu County, and the DCI has taken charge of the case, conducting forensic tests on the recovered head.

Two individuals of Nigerian nationality, implicated in connection with Waeni’s tragic murder, were arraigned in court after being apprehended in a rented flat in Ndenderu, Kiambu County.

During their arrest, Kasarani DCI officers confiscated a hatchet, a butcher’s knife, six mobile phones, various SIM cards, three laptop computers, and a Kenyan identity card.

Police revealed that investigations unveiled the duo’s illegal stay in Kenya.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Rita Waeni, and may her soul find eternal peace.
