Jackie Maribe and ex Jowie Irungu to know if they have a case to answer today

Former ex Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe and ex-lover Joseph Irungu will today know whether they have a case to answer in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

High Court judge Grace Nzioka will deliver her ruling in a few hours, In December last year, the two urged the court to acquit them in a case for lack of evidence.

In their submissions, the two through their defence lawyers led by Prof Hassan Nandwa told the judge they were wrongly charged with murder.

Jacky and Irungu denied killing Monica, claiming that she might have been killed by an unknown person at her recidence on that night in 2018.

The lawyer referred the court to a testimony by one of the prosecution witnesses who told the court that he found the DNA of an unknown male in Monica’s house.

The court heard that Maribe never knew Monica and that she never participated in the killing of the deceased as claimed by the Prosecutors.

But the Prosecution led by Assistant DPP Gikui Gichuhi dismissed their statement, saying the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the two jointly and severally murdered Monica.

“We urge the court to place Jowie and Maribe on their defence as the prosecution has discharged its burden of proof in respect of each accused person and the Court should hold that they have a case to answer,” he said.

Gikui said all events leading to the murder and many lies made up by Maribe to the police show that she planned with Jowie Irungu to kill Monica.

‘Excited to leave behind everything that wasn’t genuine,’ Jacque wrote.
