Japanese government implores young people to drink more alcohol to boost the economy.

The Japanese government has encouraged young people to drink more alcohol in order to boost the economy through taxes generated by breweries.

According to tax agency statistics, Japanese people drank less in 2020 than they did in 1995, with annual averages dropping from 100 litres (22 gallons) to 75 litres (16 gallons)

The government will hold marketing campaign to provide a platform for young people to propose business concept that will motivate individuals to consume more.

Based on the official competition website, it plans on inviting participants to make suggestions on how to “stimulate demand among young people” for alcohol through innovative features, promotional methods, products, designs, and marketing techniques using artificial intelligence or the metaverse.
